An “Inconvenient” Debate (the truth about the global warming debate)

The fight to re-open the debate on global warming heated up this past week when hundreds of email messages from American and British researchers were hacked into and posted on public sites.  The contents in these emails were controversial to say the least.  They revealed a possible manipulation of statistical information to hide scientific data that may prove humans have minimal impact on climate change.  Al Gore’s 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth has come under fire.  In October 2007 a British High Court judge ruled that An Inconvenient Truth contained nine significant errors.  In December 2008 over 700 scientists from around the globe disputed the man-made global warming claims by the United Nation’s IPPC and Al Gore in a U.S. Senate Minority report.  A year later more and more scientists have been coming out against man-made global warming assertions.  So why does Al Gore insist the debate is over?  Why do so many man-made global warming supporters want the door closed on the subject?  After all isn’t science about fact?  Check out John Stossel’s report on the matter.

I have been trying to wrap my brain around this whole global warming thing for awhile.  The only answer I can come up with is it is driven by money and activist.  Both have the effect of driving the creation of so many destructive policies.  For instance, Al Gore’s venture capital firm invested over $75 Million in green energy technology.  He has positioned himself to make huge profits if they can create policies that force green energy initiatives down our throats.  Talk about incentive for green energy policies.  Cap and Trade is the first step in this process.  Fringe environmental groups have embedded themselves like tics in our elected officials. They are bankrolled by various organizations and are represented by powerful lobby groups in Washington. If they had their way we would be writing by candle light, and would see the return of the horse and buggy days.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about being environmentally responsible and holding corporations’ feet to the fire if they pollute or are environmentally irresponsible.  What I’m not about is creating policies or laws based on conjecture that is peddled by an out of control media and fringe groups.  The fact is we just don’t know enough about climate change.  And the last time I fact checked my basic knowledge of geological history; climate change has existed on this planet longer than humans.  Ice ages occurred long before the industrial age.  Floods, fires, massive earthquakes, volcano eruptions, and droughts have always been a part of life here on Earth. So why is now so different than 10,000 or 100,000 years ago.  I guess now it’s because climate change is profitable.  And if there is money to be made, there are individuals willing to create the climate to make it.

Now that’s what I call real climate change.

It is amazing that people are so naive to consider the “Convenient Truth” that global climate change is less about our role as it is about another cyclical change opportunists and radicals can exploit. It is big business as you state and Gore and others is riding the green wave to the bank.

It is big business. Look as I stated in the post, I'm all about the science of climate change and trying to grasp a better understanding of it. The problem is these organizations and Al Gore are about using from what I can see a very cyclical phenomena to scare people into believing the sky is falling. They are pushing their skewed data on our kids and peddling their snake oil in an attempt to create an entire generation addicted to junk science or at least incomplete science. We need to call them on it.
