The Cloward-Piven Strategy (genuine threat or conspiracy theory)

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about the Cloward-Piven Strategy.  To be honest I had never heard of the Cloward-Piven Strategy until the Glenn Beck show.  Beck has for some time now been trying to wake people up to what he believes is a very real threat to our economy and nation.  I did listen, however I did not feel that it was something worth digging into beyond the Glenn Beck show.  I couldn’t even fathom an administration or Congress employing such a strategy.  I like many of you believe in the old red, white, and blue and the American way.  You know baseball and apple pie.  Freedom, liberty, property, and the entrepreneurial spirit of the American citizen are the things I believe in.  I wasn’t about to be lumped in with some conservative “kook” that welcomed all kinds of conspiracy theories.  You remember those same kooks that claimed a few years back that the world was heading towards one global currency and a world government…oh wait that’s not so much of a crazy thing anymore.  Anyway where was I, oh the Cloward-Piven Strategy.  You see being a conservative you tend to take a few things for granted.  You know like everyone wants to do what’s best for the nation and no one would ever consider collapsing our system on purpose.  I mean that’s just crazy talk…isn’t it?

The sad truth is there are people that hold positions of influence in our government that do not like the good old red, white, and blue in its current form.  They wish to fundamentally transform the United States into something that’s well not the United States.  These radicals over the years have gained a certain degree of acceptance on college campuses and have been actively molding the young minds of the future.  Now doesn’t that make you feel all warm inside.  They have embraced causes from the environment to the economic arena.  They continuously bash the United States and depict us as the source of all evil that has befallen upon western civilization.  I mean if you really want to buy into their garbage you will need to forget a few things.  Forget the Constitution and the Founding Fathers.  I mean they were nothing but slave owners.   Forget liberty and property rights because the collective is more important than the individual.  Forget World War I and II, and the cold war.  Because saving civilization from tyranny and preserving freedom doesn’t really align with their socialist agenda.  And forget John Wayne, because he symbolizes everything that is wrong with America.  Ok I maybe I stepped over the line with John Wayne, but you get my point.  They do not believe in the things most Americans hold near and dear to their hearts.  And what’s worse is that we allow these hacks on our college campuses.

So what does all this have to do with the Cloward-Piven Strategy?  Well everything.  You see these radicals need something to rally around.  All radicals need a cause and then look for some guidance and direction.  Vladimir Lenin was a revolutionary radical from Russia and was first introduced to the writings of Karl Marx while in college.  His cause was the working class and their suppression by the autocracy in power and his guidance was Marx.  He realized that tapping into the dissatisfaction of the people alone would not be enough to change the current form of government.  He needed a plan to sell to the people and then an opportunity to employ it.  That opportunity came when things went south for Russia during World War I and Tsar Nicholas II abdicated his thrown.  A power vacuum ensued and he had the organization and plan to fill it.  So once again we ask what does this have to do with the Cloward-Piven Strategy?

You see the Cloward-Piven Strategy was developed in the 1960s by sociologists Richard Cloward and Frances Piven at Columbia University.  The 60s were marked by civil unrest in the United States and numerous radical organizations grew out that disenchantment.  The premise of the strategy is to hasten the collapse of capitalism buy overloading the system.  You can overload the system by out of control spending for funding of entitlement programs and by monetizing our debt.  You can also overload it by the massive increase in the printing of currency that devalues the dollar or you can do what they are currently doing, a combination of all three.  Eventually the United States will be unable to meet its obligations on all fronts and the entire house of cards will collapse.  This would lead to economic ruin and open the door for the “opportunity” to fill the vacuum and to fundamentally transform the United States.  This might be the end goal of not only the radicals but the progressives.  The Cloward-Piven Strategy is the blueprint that some people believe is being used to “fundamentally transform” America.

If anything it makes you think.  And the one thing I know based on how the President is governing is he is a far left guy.  So maybe there is something to this…or maybe I’m just another “kook” spouting off a bunch of nonsense.  Either way I think it warrants that we keep our eyes wide open and most important stay informed.
