Chris Matthews and his Brain Trust Define Acts of Sedition

Chris Matthews has always been my favorite liberal to target because he just makes it so easy.  On April 18 on his show The Chris Matthews Show, he sat down with some of his progressive/liberal pals and accused Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin of making statements that are close to being seditious.  Time’s writer Joe Klein even took the time to write on a napkin the definition of sedition.  Now that was a classy move.

Anyway check out the below video from the “Brain Trust” round table.

I love the last comments by Klein: when people get scared they get defensive and they get a little bit crazy.  Ding ding ding…we have a winner.  Yes that’s right Joe Klein, you just described the far left to include yourself.

Well Mr. Klein, I decided to do a little research myself and I actually found a site that highlighted some of the nasty language that you claim Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck are using to undermine the government.  Now for concision I only selected 10 quotes from each.  The site actually had a total of 35 quotes for Glenn Beck and 34 for Sarah Palin.  You can see the rest here.

Sarah Palin’s “seditious” statements:

America’s finest – our men and women in uniform, are a force for good throughout the world, and that is nothing to apologize for.

Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reason, and not just to mingle with the right people.

Despite what the pundits want us to think, contested primaries aren’t civil war, they are democracy at work, and that’s beautiful.

Here’s a little newsflash for those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion. I’m going to Washington to serve this great country.

I’m just one of many moms who will say an extra prayer each night for our sons and daughters going into harm’s way.

Our government needs to adopt a pro-market agenda that doesn’t pick winners and losers, but it invites competition and it levels the playing field for everyone.

To win this war, we need a commander in chief, not a professor of law standing at the lectern.

We need American sources of resources, we need American energy, brought to you by American ingenuity and produced by American workers.

Washington has got to, across the board, lower taxes for small businesses so that our mom and pops can reinvest and hire people, so that our businesses can thrive.

Each of us knows that we have an obligation to care for the old, the young and the sick. We stand strongest when we stand with the weakest among us.

Glenn Beck’s “seditious” statements:

Timothy McVeigh was a coward. Violence is the stupid way out. It’ll discredit any real legitimate movement.

To restore America we need less Marx and more Madison.

Good for you, you have a heart, you can be a liberal. Now, couple your heart with your brain, and you can be a conservative.

I believe that if we get out of people’s way, the sky’s the limit. The sky is the limit.

No one is guaranteed happiness. You can pursue it, but if you happen to find success along the way on that road to happiness, Conservatives believe you should not be demonized or penalized for it.

Not a single time have we gotten a right from Congress or from the President. We get them from God.

Progressivism is the cancer in America and it is eating our Constitution, and it was designed to eat the Constitution, to progress past the Constitution.

The majority does not rule in America, but the minority shouldn’t hijack it. And it’s because we’re afraid. They have isolated us and made us feel as though we’re alone. We’re not.

We should reject big government and look inside ourselves for all the things that built this country into what it was.

Without failure there is no sweetness in success. There’s no understanding of it.

Wow those are some dangerous statements.  I mean maybe I should have written them down on a napkin to get the desired effect.  Or maybe these guys are just full of crap and they’re so desperate and pathetic that they’re throwing anything and everything at the wall to see if it will stick.  I mean this is becoming extremely insulting.

The truth is the left are the ones getting defensive and a little bit crazy.  They are the ones using words that are crafted to draw out an emotional response.  By calling Tea Party participants racist, tea baggers, and extremist, they hope to elicit a reaction.  By throwing eggs at a bus carrying Tea Party participants to an event in Nevada in an effort to intimidate the protestors; one could possibly view these actions as an act of sedition.  Maybe someone could say that their right to peaceably assemble and petition the government is being threatened.

Read the Sedition Act of 1798 and judge for yourself.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but consider this. Remember the talk by the left-wing liberals against George W. Bush? Some of that was just as bad or worse than the things that are being said about President Obama. Did we hear the main stream media calling it sedition? No, we did not. All we heard was that it was their right to disagree with any administration.

Look, I do not necessarily care for Glen Beck and Sarah Palin, but they do have a right to disagree with the President and his policies. It is not sedition to do so.

It's incredible the hypocrisy. They were using those very words and making far more outrageous statements about Bush less than two years.

These quotes from Beck and Palin are pretty tame. The pundits are going down in flames and thrashing about.

Thanks for the comments Larry. You know I think this is the left laying the ground work to curb free speech. Let's say some loon does something crazy that can be traced back to a Glenn Beck show or any other conservative; well then it must have been all this seditious language from the right that caused it. I'm telling you, they don't want the debate, they want to silence dissenters.

  • John Carey April 19, 2010 at 4:49 PM

You know it Trestin. It's funny how things have changed and so has their definition of peaceful, patriotic dissent.

  • John Carey April 19, 2010 at 4:51 PM

I agree with you Opus. They are very tame. The left is grasping at straws. Like I said, they are throwing anything they can at the wall to see if it will stick. I think they look utterly foolish.

Does anyone think that they're going to do a Reichstag fire? They lost the debate on facts (inasmuch as they tried to have one), they can't set up the Tea Parties, and their propaganda effort is failing. In a word(s), they're screwed. A Reichstag fire may be all they have left.

  • John Carey April 19, 2010 at 8:24 PM

God I hope not Matt. I do believe that the Democrats/progressives are digging the hole deeper for themselves.
