Democrats inch DISCLOSE Act closer to a vote

Well folks it looks like H.R. 5175 better known as the DISCLOSE Act is close to becoming a reality.  After the NRA withdrew their opposition to the bill last week after a reported deal was cut with the Democrats.  It now looks like the Democrats are close to garnering up enough votes to pass the bill.  The NRA did release a statement shortly after the questionable deal was cut.  You can read their statement here. reported the following on their website:  “Heritage Foundation legal scholar Hans A. Von Spakovsky, a former member of the Federal Election Commission, tells Newsmax that the timing of the legislation indicates its true purpose is muzzling groups that otherwise might freely voice their opposition to Democratic policies in campaign ads.  The Disclose Act, also known as H.R. 5175, is written so that it takes effect 30 days after passage — just in time to impact the November midterms.”

“That’s just crazy,” Von Spakovsky tells Newsmax, “because whenever a new statute gets passed on campaign finance reform, the FEC has the job of creating the regulations needed to implement the statute. There is just no way the FEC, which I served on for two years, could in two months come up with regulations to enforce this law.”  Instead, he says, Democrats “just seem to be intent on creating a legal morass,” the uncertainty of which would discourage organizations from trying to voice their views at all.

You can read the entire article here.

Another little interesting note is that one of bill’s strongest backers is Congressman Chris Van Hollen, (D-MD).  He is the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee; their main charter is to get Democrats elected to Congress.  It doesn’t get any more transparent than that.  It almost looks like the Democrats are not only trying to usurp the Constitution by placing rigid restrictions on the rights of organizations to exercise their constitutionally protected right of free speech, but they are also ignoring the ruling of the Supreme Court which ruled that that provisions of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law restricted corporations and nonprofit groups from running political advertising were unconstitutional.

Now I don’t about you but not only do I find this reprehensible, but I feel that if they are knowingly passing a bill that doesn’t pass the constitutionality test just too muddy up election waters this November; it sounds borderline criminal.  They are trying to influence an election by passing a law that takes effect 30 days after passage.  A law that is unconstitutional.  Now how does this make any sense at all?  It doesn’t!

Folks we’re are indeed living in strange times.  We’re witnessing the total disregard of our Constitution by officials that took an oath to support and defend it; a Constitution that became the law of the land 222 years ago yesterday.  Why do we stand for the nonsense?  Why do we allow an out-of-control Congress to continue to dismantle our Republic?  Why have we allowed the fringe elements of the left to set policy in America?  We’re better than that.

Once again I encourage all of you to contact your elected official via email, phone, letter, or by any other means you can find to express your concerns about this bill.  We must let them know that we are drawing the line and beginning the process of restoring the balance and limitations of government that our Founders crafted within the framework of our Constitution.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

I EXPECTED a lack of morals from party politicians; I did NOT expect the NRA to be so blatantly self-centered as to sell out the rest of the nation. If you want to know more of my thoughts on the matter, please check out my blog, "Gorges' Grouse."

They are doing everything to rig November short of tampering with the voting machines.

I agree Trestin. They know they're in real trouble. This is why they want amnesty. Oh by the way, great interview with Matt. Very professional as always.
