Socialism is Slavery

I was inspired to write this post by an interview I read over at Trestin Meacham’s blog.  He was interviewing a fellow blogger Hyphenated-American and I was moved by his words.

The following is an excerpt from that interview.

TM: Why should Americans be concerned about socialism?

H-A: In the final analysis, socialism is modern day slavery. Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, democracy, freedom of religion, freedom of association cannot exist in the absence of free market economy. If a man cannot keep the fruits of his labor, if the government has full control over his economic activity – that man is nothing but a slave. Every increase of government’s economic power comes at the expense of individual liberty. Every time government claims its right to regulate this or that commerce – the less freedom of choice is left to the individual.

You can read the entire interview here.

I know most of you already understand that socialism is a form of modern day slavery but there is a large segment of the population that simply doesn’t see it that way for one reason or another.  This includes the current administration running the show.  Every bill they have passed or proposed is designed to redistribute wealth.  From the stimulus bill, Obamacare, and the recently passed financial reform bill to the proposed cap and trade and immigration reform bills, they have all been crafted to redistribute wealth on a scale that infringes on the liberties and freedoms of the individual like never before.

Two years ago candidate Obama made an off-the-cuff comment about spreading the wealth around to a plumber that questioned why the fruits of his labor should be redistributed.  Obama’s answer was that he didn’t want to punish the plumber’s success; he just wanted to give the folks behind him the same opportunity.  Well when you confiscate wealth from an individual and redistribute to another, not only are you punishing their success, but you’re enslaving them because they now work for another segment of society for free.  Essentially their labor becomes the property of another.

Slavery is defined as: 1. Submission to a dominating influence. 2. The state of a person who is a chattel of another b : the practice of slaveholding

Now the one key thing we need to understand is that the redistribution of wealth is a tenet of socialism.  I would even say it’s a cornerstone of the philosophy.  So why would so many Americans even consider this self-imposed form of slavery?  I mean look at our progressive tax system; if you make more wealth, then expect to be punished with higher taxes and the fruits of your labors to be redistributed to the have-nots.  This has a crippling effect not only on the free market system but on the lower class that desires to break free from their current class.  When you’re capping success in a society, you’re building a wall to protect those that have already achieved success and keep out those that wish to achieve it.

Below is a pretty good video that compares socialism to modern slavery.  It’s about 9 minutes long but worth the look.

So the next time you hear someone espousing about all the good that socialism offers, ask them why they desire to enslave the working class and see what answer they give you.  Maybe they’ll tell you that they don’t want to punish your success, they just want to make sure that the have-nots have the same opportunity at success.  What’s ironic is that socialism does just the opposite by giving the have-nots the scraps from the table and building a wall to keep them from achieving success.  It’s a nice ideology if you’re an elitist.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

Americans have never been exposed to full blown socialism and as a result most have no idea what it really means. The former eastern bloc countries in europe know full well the hardships imposed by a true socialist government and having tasted it want no more. Yes, many in this country long for the once forbidden fruit of socialism and are willing to bite the apple!

Thanks for comment Ron. What I find interesting is there are two Europes. Old eastern block nations like Poland that are as capitalistic as you can be, and Western Europe, who is embracing socialism and falling flat on their backs.

I just added this to Marxism is poison.

Thanks Trestin. I need to check it out.

What an excellent post! Socialism keeps the worker chained like a dog, being totally dependent on the government for all one's needs.

  • John Carey July 19, 2010 at 6:49 PM

Thanks Teresa. It's slavery that's all there is to it.

Hi John, I came from Trestin's after reading his excellent interview with you.

Sadly, most American's will not understand the heavy cost until they get their pays checks after the first of 2011. Even then, they won't have a clue why their check is less.

Socialism is also ideal for dictators. It's the first step in a short road to the ultimate sell-out of our country.

I notice in the video he says the question is from Daniel Greenfield – can socialsim and a free system can co-exist side-by side? You may know this, but if not, Daniel is the wonderful blogger at Sultan Knish.

Enjoyed the article, the discussion and the video.

Thanks for dropping by Maggie. I hope to see you here more often. If you provide me the link to your blog I'll definitely check it out.

I did not know that about Daniel. I will need to check it out. I do believe we need to do a better job exposing socialism for what it is and educating the people about its evils. If you place socialism and capitalism side by side and explain both in a clear and understandable manner, Americans will choose capitalism again and again. The reason people are flirting with socialism now is because they really don't know what it is. We need change that and we do it through education.

Socialism takes all incentive to better ones self away! When you punish the productive to award the non-productive you have a recipe for class warfare and national decline. I busted my rear to get mine and you have the opportunity to do the same and reap the fruits of your labor with capitalism. You are the villian if you are a producer under socialism!

  • John Carey July 20, 2010 at 6:06 PM

Thanks for dropping by Kurt. It does take incentive away from the producer and will lead to a national decline. We need to educate people and fast.
