President Obama’s Community Organizer Moment

Over the last few days I have been reading a number of posts on the Ground Zero mosque and President Obama’s comments last Friday night when he expressed support for the Ground Zero mosque.  By Saturday he realized his comments had ignited a firestorm of criticism and he immediately began to back pedal from his words.

For the most part I refrained from writing on this topic until I sat back and pondered the President’s motives.  I thought how could he be so careless with his words knowing that this issue has sparked deep-seated emotions in many Americans?  I mean is he that determined to reserve a seat in history with the rest of America’s on term Presidents?  As I read blog after blog I couldn’t wrap my brain around why he took this position. Even his spin the following day was weak. I mean for someone that was a masterful campaigner in 2008, this was almost like amateur hour.  So why did he do it?  Then it hit me!  What type of person would inject their opinion into such a controversial local issue?  A community organizer would.

You see community organizers make it a point to engage in local politics or issues that impact the local community.  ACORN a community action group protested banks in the 1990s in an attempt to force the banks to loosen their credit restrictions for home loans.  They conducted protests and sit-ins at local banks in the hopes of embarrassing the banks into action.  The same holds true for many community organizations across the country that have injected themselves into local issues.  President Obama was a community organizer and his actions or should I say his words displayed his natural drift to a place he feels comfortable in.  Injecting his opinion into the local affairs of New York City would have been acceptable 18 years ago when he was actively engaged with Project VOTE and ACORN; but not as President of the United States.

As President of the United States, it is not appropriate or acceptable to pick a side on a local issue even if it becomes the talk of the nation.  It is beneath the dignity of the Office of the President of the United States period.  The President and those around him now realize they dropped the ball on this big time and are in full blown damage control mode.  They’re sinking in this quicksand because the community organizer in Barack Obama could not be contained and now his party is running from him.  Recent polls are now starting to reveal the extent of the damage as he is quickly becoming politically toxic.

This could be the issue that more than likely reserves his seat in history with all the other one termers.  We’ll have to wait and see what the community organizer’s next move is.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

You would have thought that after the whole Gates fiasco and the beer summit that Barack Obama would have learned a lesson about delving into local politics, but I guess he just can't help himself.
I just wonder, didn't somebody read his speech beforehand and realize that this could be a problem?

I hadn't thought of it like that, John but you could very well be right. He is a community organizer at heart and from the abundance of the heart doth the mouth speak. He just couldn't help but interject himself and his opinion into the issue.

You know Steve; I very much doubt anyone cared what was in the speech. He is surrounded by a bunch of ideologues that can't see the forest through the trees.

I think he i still a community organizer Larry. He simply can't help himself because he views all things as local.

Community organizers do not unite. They divide and polarize. Typical Obama behavior. And to do this at a Ramadan dinner. His insensitivity takes your breath away.

You are correct Opus. What has he done since being elected…divide…divide…divide. Why should this be any different after all he is still a community organizer in his heart. Thanks for the comments.

Obama has been the most divisive President in American history. I hadn't thought of the community organizer aspect of his statement either. I just figured that since he is at the very least a cultural Muslim and seems to usually speak out on controversial issues somewhat haphazardly that he just simply decided that he should chime in and comment on the Ground Zero Mosque controversy.

You are correct Teresa when you say he has been the most divisive Presidents in American history. He is an ideologue and believes the crap he is shoveling. The community organizer aspect just makes sense to me. It's the only way 1+1=2 in my world.
