Pushing Back: What the Right is Up Against

Have you ever noticed that when conservatives push back against liberals or progressives it completely catches them off guard.  I mean for years the liberals have been pushing their flawed, socialistic, liberty stealing, constitution violating ideology down our throats while we have quietly sat back and taken it.  Then a few years ago conservatives decided enough was enough and started pushing back.  It started off as a simple tax day revolt on April 15th 2009 and morphed into a massive movement.  It completely knocked the left of their center of gravity.  They were expecting conservatives to sit in the back of the bus and shut up while they began to fundamentally transform our nation.  They expected us to be predictable and remain silent.  Instead we all began to find our voice and the courage to stand up to these liberty stealing tyrants.

We began to tell them where to stick their oppressive ideology and draconian policies they responded with name calling.  I know that we don’t all agree on everything but we did find common ground on key principles.  We know that the way forward is with a limited government that taxes us less and stays within the scope of their constitutional authority.  We gained a deep respect and understanding for these basic principles; the same principles our founders embraced.  Principles that protect and promote the unalienable rights that each of us are born with.  Individual liberties and property rights lead us to a place where freedom’s light shines on all.  These timeless principles will unshackle us and free us from those whom would proclaim that they know what is best for the individual and believe our solutions are found in a government that sees us as nothing more than nine digits.  The left abhors these principles because they reject the collective and embrace the individual.  They have worked so hard to twist and erase from our history these founding principles that threaten their Tory mentality.    You see these principles stand as strong as a wall against their ideology’s core principles of social, economic, and environmental justice; concepts they have freely pushed with little or no opposition from the right.

They have infected our public school systems and our colleges where they preach their anti-liberty socialistic doctrine to an ill-prepared youth unable to critically think.  Our public school systems prime them for liberal universities that will shape their opinions and philosophies to reflect the leftist’s view of America and the world.  They pump out politically and socially inept fools who use emotional appeal to sell their flawed view of America.  They lack the basic skills to defend this indefensible ideology that shackles and enslaves the masses.

The academic community at our colleges and universities abandoned their educational principles in favor of ideological rhetoric.  They have been successful in convincing a large number of young ignorant students that capitalism is evil and is the leading factor behind the social inequities that exist in our society.  They made claims that socialism was a better way to manage our economy with the government controlling the means of production.  They preached political philosophies that grew out of the autocratic rule of Europe in the 1840s and rejected the constitution as an outdated document that was no longer relevant to our conversation today.  And finally they painted the right as uncompassionate, heartless, uneducated, racists, fascists who cared little about the plight of the average American.  These young minds were like blank pages to write on and that’s exactly what the leftists’ professors did.  They were and are quietly building a new foundation of socialistic principles to replace the principles of liberty and freedom that have served us well for 235 years.  The results of these universities injecting their leftist philosophies into the students is that they have successfully produced far left to left leaning elitists who believe they are better educated and better equipped than the average American to tackle the pressing issues we face.  They have the answers for all of us.

This is what we’re up against; an elitist bunch fools who lack critical thinking skills and use anecdotal stories and emotional appeal to peddle their collectivistic snake oil to the masses.  And this is why we are locked in our great struggle to save our republic from these fools.  The main problem the left has with the right is they believe we’re a bunch of morons who cling to our guns and religion.  They have been taught in their liberal institutions that those who embrace conservative principles are uneducated and naive.  What I find noteworthy is that when they encounter conservatives who espouse the principles of liberty put forth by our founding father they aren’t quite sure what to make of it.  They are unable to deal with a person who uses critical thought to debate a concept or philosophy.  When emotional appeal doesn’t work, they challenge our education or our entire belief system.  They see us as children that require their guidance and direction.  The truth is they are the ones that are ill-prepared for an open and honest debate and when their flawed ideology is exposed they have nothing else to fall back on but name calling.  It’s the same pattern over and over again.

Conservative principles are timeless because they fall in line with many of the principles of our founders.  They embrace liberty and freedom and when they are conveyed in a clear and understandable manner, they sell themselves.  You see as Americans liberty and freedom is in our DNA.  We may at times lose our way; but buried deep within each us is a fire that continuously burns to be free.  These concepts of individual liberty and freedom collide with the leftist viewpoint and make it extremely difficult for them to grasp.  This is why they don’t really know how to respond when conservatives push back.  They expect us to follow their lead because after all they know what is best for us.

This is what we’re up against.  This is what our founders were up against; a government that believed it knew what was best for the colonists from a long distance.  And this is why we must always continue to push back.  There are Tories amongst us even today.

Liberty forever, freedom for all.

Great post, John. I think you are right; when the left is faced with someone who challenges them with facts and critical thinking, they really don’t know what to do about it. The reason for that is because their thinking and arguments are based on emotional appeal and not real facts.

Thanks Larry. I find this to be the case each time I debate with someone from the left. They almost lock up or start questioning my education. They really tend to be an emotional train wreck when their ideas are successfully challenged.

We’re not losing Mike, I believe we are winning, its just going to take time.

I hope you are right John and thank you for the reply.

Heading for the Assigned Reading List as soon as I get home tonight. The Progressive ideologue is an emotional, faith-based, adherent to a canonical political code. The real chink in his armor is a total lack of anything resembling a sense of humor. (He’s on a 24×7 mission from “god,” or Marx, or whoever) That’s why the well positioned joke at the Progressive ideologue’s expense is such an effective tactic. See for the archetype.

Sounds like a good tip Liberty. I’ll have to remember that the next time I lock horns with a leftist.

Right on, John! The left will never understand that free men and women formed societies and governments to serve them and not sot that they could serve society and government.

I don’t think they’ll ever get it Jim. It is a sad state to be in.

I graduated from the University of Miami School of Law, and the promotional literature for the school (at least back when I was applying) proudly proclaimed that I would be trained to be an “architect of society.” I laughed at the time, but I cry about it now. Let’s just say that it is part of the reason why I am proud to call myself a “recovering attorney.”

    • John Carey February 14, 2011 at 10:08 PM

When you graduated from school that’s exactly what they expected from you, to fundamentally transform society and America. No longer is it about the rule of law, it’s about a legal system that creates new law through a liberal interpretation of the law.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. What amazes me about our leftist, progressive friends is they see themselves as our intellectual superiors. But if you try to challenge them on any of their beliefs they get angry, raise their voice and end the conversation. They simply cannot have a rational conversation with anybody.

    Our superiors? Um, maybe not.

They’re not critical thinkers. It is a vital tool you need to have a grown up conversation about issues. They fall back on name calling or getting angry because that is pretty much all they have. They have been set up for failure by their college professors.

Great post John! Yes, when we try to debate the left we are greeted with insults and attacks instead of facts and reasonable debate, and that is because the liberals know that they are wrong and cannot win the argument so they try to make us less legitimate. They still can’t believe that the Tea Pary is a viable and real movement and they have been trying to bring us down for almost three years now, but they cannot because we have a real set of beliefs that we are unwilling to change while they rely on emotions to make their point. But emotions can only go so far, while facts and truth will always prevail in the end.
We have a long battle ahead of us, but we can win it if we stay true to our beliefs.

I agree Steve, we not only can win but we will win. The truth is the more people are reintroduced to the principles of liberty and freedom the more they will reject the left’s collective philosophy. The key for us is to spread the conservative message with the same enthusiasm and commitment of those that spread the word in the colonies. We must stay true to the message. We must stay engaged.

Excellent post. I’ve always found that sticking with facts, and beating a lib to death with them (figuratively, of course) , is the best way to defeat them. The garden variety one will quickly be reduced to bomb throwing. Even then, keep on topic, because the insults are not only intended to discredit you, as well as take you off message.
