We have a moral obligation to enforce our constitution

Lately I’ve been hearing the words moral obligation or moral duty being thrown around like a baseball on the first day of spring training.  Pundits and politicians declare we have a moral duty to protect the civilians in Libya.  Democrats cried we had a moral obligation to pass ObamaCare to ensure all Americans had access to affordable health care even though it may very well lead to a single payer system and bankrupt our nation.  With all this talk of moral obligations and duty I feel it’s only fair to add one more to this list.  We have a moral obligation to enforce our constitution.  We owe it to each other and our children in order to restore the republic our founders carefully crafted in 1787.  We owe it to our children and our children’s children to stand firm and remind our elected officials they can’t cherry pick from our constitution the articles that favor their position and disregard those that do not.   You see we have no other document but our constitution that can protect us and our children from tyranny imposed through policy and regulations.  It’s the only document in the world that protects its citizens from the natural tendency of a government to drift towards tyranny by limiting its ability to impose its will on its citizens.  What higher moral obligation can we as Americans embrace than that?  I can’t think of one.

Lately I have sensed that a number of people fighting to restore our republic getting frustrated with the progress.  They thought that by electing a large number of Republicans this past November to restore the balance of power would change things and set us on a course towards getting back to economic prosperity and a constitutional government.  How disappointing it has been.  Two months ago we watched as House Republicans and some Democrats read the constitution aloud on the house floor and here we are today still shredding our constitution.  People are beginning to lose faith and trust in the system; a system that has been infected with corruption on multiple levels.  People are finding it harder and harder to believe they can change anything in Washington D.C.  But the hard truth is Washington will only change when we change.  We must become better people with higher ideals.  When we as a people finally decide that we have a moral obligation to enforce our constitution as it is written and not as its interpreted a number of our problems will begin to slowly fade away.  America will become great again and a new dawn will be upon us.  When politicians realize they’re not going to get a free pass anymore in regards to our constitution they will be forced to change the way they do business.  They will find themselves with a choice to either sit at the dinner table with the people or be on the menu.

Politicians are politicians and the one thing they know how to do is survive, so they will indeed change their ways out of necessity.  But this can only happen when we the people decide we have had enough of their games and their total disregard for our constitution.  Reading the constitution on the house floor simply isn’t going to cut in it; we have a republic to save.  For far too long generation after generation has allowed the servants to be the masters and these masters have slowly chipped away at our constitution; citizens have traded their liberties for government security.  They have given up a bit at a time the one thing that they should have been utterly selfish with; their liberties.  Now we stand on the bank of the Rubicon ready to cross.  We feel as Caesar; unsure if we’re making the right decision but realizing once the die are cast there is no turning back.

What have we the people become?  Why are we so willing to let go that which is so precious?  How can we wake up each morning and look in the mirror knowing our republic is in peril and not find the courage to stand up for it and our constitution.  It’s time to take a serious look in our hearts and find where we stand.  Do we stand with the Founding Fathers or not.  The choice is really that simple.  You just have to be willing to make enforcing our constitution a moral obligation and run with it.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

How do we force our elected officials to do right by us? Obama needs to be impeached NOW and held accountable for his multiple acts of treason, dereliction of duty and selling out of our Nation’s sovereignty. Why are only a few liberals calling for his impeachment and not the entire GOP? When will Republicans stop being such gutless weasels and do right by us? What do we have to do to make it happen? We cannot wait until 2012, it will be too late to save us by then.

America is bigger than one man Zilla. I get just as frustrated as the next person but I do know that the answers are within us and we must no longer be afraid to put them forward. If elected officials don’t honor the constitution, then that’s why we have elections.

I know, I tell my readers at the A-C page that all the time, but honestly, I worry that we’ll not make it through two more years of Obama and his merry band of Anti-American minions. If we do get through though, and the GOP has remained as cowardly as they are now, you can be that I’ll be working my butt off to help see each and every one of them replaced at the nearest primary – starting with those who went along with that awful START surrender treaty.

Beautifully said, John. I hope people take your words to heart.

John, really awesome post. You’ve hit the nail on the head. We have to control the things that we can control – and that starts with ourselves and then our own families. We have to be diligent and take this seriously. We can no longer accept the status quo. We can no longer blithely accept the degradation of our culture. The emperor has no clothes. We have to get used to pointing that out and exercise our right to free speech, regardless of political correctness. If something stinks and is oozing slime, there’s a better than even chance it’s rotten. A lot of the folks we elected are starting to smell.

Thanks Martin. We do need to take it very seriously because we are living in times when we are on the verge of allowing the great experiment to fail. People need to come to their senses and realize that the binding the holds this all together is the constitution and when we allow our elected officials to disregard it, everything begins to unravel. We’re beginning to unravel my friend. Its time to put or shut up.

The worst thing we can do now is to back off and stop pushing our agenda. Yes, we should all have an agenda of enforcing our Constitution. If it takes voting those people out of office who would ignore it, then so be it. We can’t afford to quit now. Great post, John.

Thanks Larry. We are much closer today than we were yesterday in turning this thing around and tomorrow we will be closer than today. People are indeed waking up we just need to keep our focus and hold our elected officials feet to the fire at all levels of government, local or federal.

Great post John! I too get frustrated at this process but we must all try to remember that it took generations for us to get where we are and it is going to take time to get us back on course. It is going to be a slow process but we must remain vigilant and we must hold those that do not adhere to the constitution accountable for their actions.

Any change will be extremely painful. There are already too many Americans dependent on the Federal government in one form or another. They aren’t going to stop the gravy train until it crashes as the result of our debt.

A pessimistic opinion. I hope I am wrong.

Unfortunately you could be right Manhattan. People have indeed become addicted to the government scraps. What we need is to show them that they’re settling for the scraps when they could be eating a steak dinner…with lobster…and mashed potatoes….and maybe some greens. Anyway you get the point.

I think Mr. Infidel might be right…sadly.

Wonderful post John. This one, and the prior ones, should be rallying calls for our cause.

Thanks Matt. I think we need to focus on what matters. What matters is our God, our families, and our constitution. It’s time we start acting and doing the right thing.
