We must be ready to advance liberty and freedom

Many of you are probably growing very tired of people who choose to keep their heads buried in the sand in regards to the current state of our nation.  I’m sure you have encountered these types of people in your daily activities.  They’re the ones who say they hate politics and would rather ignore the obvious than embrace the truth.  Whenever you bring up an important issue that could very well impact them or the country as a whole, they tune you out because they simply do not want to hear it.  They’re more concerned about who got voted off of American Idol or why they were defriended on Facebook the night before than our constitution and government that disregards it.  These people are spouses, friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors.  Someone told me a long time ago that you can group people into three basic types; those who are in the game, those who are watching the game and finally those who don’t even realize a game is being played.  Can you guess what category these people fall in?

They’re easily manipulated because their information comes from talking points or is skimmed off the surface of a MSM that is objectively bankrupt.  These uninformed/misinformed people living in bliss sadly become the tools of the left.  They become another component of the left’s plan to advance their agenda.  The left is allowed to spew off any nonsense; unchallenged by the majority because of this self imposed ignorance.  When the crap finally does hit the fan, these folks will be blindsided and utterly clueless as to what to do.  They will turn to the so called experts that got us here in the first place to fix the problems that were created by the flawed policies we have pointed out each day.  They will turn to these political buffoons because they don’t have a solid informational foundation to base anything on.  The saddest thing is for the most part these are good people. They are our friends and loved ones.

I feel this is an extremely important issue to vet because as I said when the time comes these same friends and loved ones will look to someone or some entity for answers; we need to make sure we’re waiting with open arms.  We need to make sure we don’t let these people become the tools for the left.  It will take a great deal of patience and time but the alternative is unacceptable.  We all know that when the conservative case is presented in a manner that is clear and understandable it wins the day 90 percent of the time.  There will come a time when these people will have their listening ears on and we need to make sure we’re ready to help them.  When one is informed they become empowered and that is the end goal; empowerment.  By empowering and helping people find the tools they need to stand on their own it loosens the grip the left has on the people and nation.

The left is counting on the Idol watchers to fall in line when the time comes.  We must be ready to take this option away from them and we do this with information and education.  We do it by showing there is a better way and that way is with our constitution and free markets.  This is a front we cannot afford to retreat from.  We must be ready to hold the line and advance the case for liberty and freedom.  The time will come when we will be required to get these folks in the game.  Will you be ready to fulfill your responsibilities as an informed citizen?  I know I will.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

Well, I think that there are two types of misinformed people, the people who are simply misinformed because they haven’t been presented with the truth and those who are willfully ignorant and take the MSM’s word as “Gospel” regardless of the evidence you show them which proves their misconceptions false.

I see your point Teresa. I do believe a great deal of the ignorance is self imposed though.

Great post John; We all know people who “go along to get along” and are oblivious to the truth, either intentionally or not, and when they finally wake up we must be there to take them into the fold. In some cases we must be willing to shake them a little bit to wake them up; they may resent us at first for disturbing their slumber but in the end we will be better off for it.

Well said Steve. I know many of them will be angry at first. But that should not deter us. We need to prevent as many as we can from being used as tools for the left.

John, I know many people like this. Many are disinterested, and refuse any effort to provide them with information. Some even state that they don’t want to know. I have to admit that there isn’t much that can be done with them.

On the other hand, some people get shocked when they see some of the videos, Kevin Jennings’s recommended reading list, and hear about some of the union shenanigans. Those, my friends, are what we call “teachable moments.”

Great post John, Happy Easter my friend.

I see the same thing Matt. When you expose some of these folks to the truth and when they finally see it they are completely shocked and angry. You are correct when you say these are indeed teachable moments. Happy Easter.

I do agree that a majority of the ignorance is self imposed. But, I feel sorry for the younger crowd who are being misled and misinformed purposely.

Wishing you and yours a happy and Blessed Easter, John.

I agree Teresa. They don’t have anything to anchor to, any solid source of information to pull from. This is why we need to be there when the time comes.

they haven’t been presented with the truth … willfully ignorant and take the MSM’s word as “Gospel”

I have a hard time watching the “news” anymore. So much of what is said – whether on CNBC, CNN, Fox News, or whatever – is blatant BS. 90% of what we call “news” is government and/or political party talking points.

[The younger crowd doesn’t] have anything to anchor to, any solid source of information to pull from.

But they’re looking. Nobody draws bigger crowds on college campuses than Ron Paul. Young people are genuinely interested in liberty. This is where us bloggers come in … We have a forum to teach, spread the message of liberty, and expose government corruption. Unfortunately, I think we (the collective right blogosphere) spend way too much time on the “Democrat vs. Republican” games instead of teaching, advocating and changing minds.

I absolutely agree CL. We sometimes get caught of in the Republican vs Democrat game and lose sight of the real purpose of our cause, and that is to educate people on liberty and freedom. If it sticks, the natural tendency would be for the size and scope of government to shrink and that is the end game.

I’m glad you mentioned the point regarding the younger generation. I’m working on getting a College Libertarian club set up at nearby Kenyon. My initial impression is that it will be successful. For the 25-and-under crowd I anticipate that conservatives will be a marginal factor politically.

They need to be presented with an alternative and good on you Ted for providing them the opportunity. The are inundated with leftist crap day in and day out and rarely hear the other side of the argument. It’s time to introduce them to it.

Well said, John. You’ve come up with a wonderful term for these folks that has a nice Biblical ring to it: The Idol Watchers.
