Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (Constitution Edition)

Yesterday was Constitution Day and I was unable to publish an article about it because I had to work.  So today I wanted to take the time to convey a few of my thoughts on this amazing document.  For 200+ years the constitution has been the law of the land.  It has been a powerful force for good and a beacon of light in a world that is often at times darkened by tyrants.  It has protected our rights by limiting the government’s ability to encroach upon them.  It truly is a remarkable piece of work. For 23 years of my life I did my best to honor the oath I took to support and defend it and I still do today.  Our founders didn’t agree on every issue in regards to the constitution.  In fact many were against the creation of it because they feared it would establish a too strong of a central government that would eventually lead to an infringement on the rights they fought so hard to secure.   Patrick Henry opposed the idea of a constitution.

In his speech during the Virginia ratifying convention in 1788 he stated; “It is said eight states have adopted this plan. I declare that if twelve states and a half had adopted it, I would, with manly firmness, and in spite of an erring world, reject it. You are not to inquire how your trade may be increased, nor how you are to become a great and powerful people, but how your liberties can be secured; for liberty ought to be the direct end of your government.”   Ask yourself if liberty is the direct end of our government or have they exceeded their constitutional authority?  Individual liberty is the cornerstone of everything we are as Americans.  It is something we must find again in our hearts.  Each and every one of us has a responsibility to support and defend our constitution.  We have obligation to take our own personal oath to ensure the people we elect work within its constitutional limitations.  Liberty is for everyone.  It does not distinguish between good or bad, rich or poor, tall or short, black or white; liberty is for all.  The constitution protects our liberties and when politicians try to get around it, they are trying to get around and limit our liberties.  When Nancy Pelosi says she is going to go over, under, or around the obstacles that block ObamaCare, she is talking about the constitution.  When President Obama gives a speech to the joint session of congress and proudly proclaims how violating the constitution by that body of government was acceptable in order to create unconstitutional programs like social security and Medicare, he is arrogantly talking about encroaching on our rights.  The forces of tyranny have become more brazen is recent years as they play a dangerous game of implementing programs and letting the courts decide whether it’s constitutional or not.  Our liberties and rights are left in the hands of a few men and women wearing black robes.  And for me this is not the way our republic is supposed to work.  In my opinion our founders would be absolutely appalled.

Now more than ever our constitution is relevant to the national conversation.  We must make it the main topic of it and the first step is getting to know it.  Each day in America should be Constitution Day, because without it we the people become irrelevant.  Below are a few LINKs to some great articles from some excellent conservative blogs around the blogosphere.   So tee it up and enjoy this week’s round at the LINKs.
