Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (time to regain our focus edition)
It’s official, the primary season has gone from a discussion of ideas to personal attacks. It has gotten especially nasty between Gingrich and Romney. After being bombarded with attack ads in Iowa by a PAC that supports Romney, Gingrich has launched his own series of attacks on Romney and his business practices with Bain Capital. This is kind of nastiness the left employs against an adversary…personal attacks. In my opinion these tactics do not serve us well and definitely hurts the advancement of the conservative cause. I understand there will be disagreement during the primaries, however these disagreements should focus on ideas. Not personal attacks. These types of personal attacks lead to deep division within the conservative movement. When they overflow onto supporters of a particular candidate it creates a toxic political environment for everyone.
Many in the conservative blogosphere have experienced this first-hand from Ron Paul supporters. These Paul supporters who I believe are in the minority have been at times downright nasty with their hateful rhetoric aimed at conservatives who support anyone but Paul. This has led to a volley of insults fired back at those who support Paul by conservatives. Colorful terms like “Paulites” and “Paultards” have become common verbiage in conservative circles. I know stick and stones, however somewhere along the line we’ve lost sight of the fact that we agree on 80 percent of the issues. Somehow the debate over ideas has morphed into petty name calling and this must stop. Our goal is to defeat Obama, to balance the budget, to repeal Obamacare, and to reestablish the constitution as the law of the land. These are the things we must stay focused on. These are the ideas we need to be discussing and advancing. If we lose this election I fear we may lose the America we all love. We live in exciting times where we have an opportunity to reverse to course the Marxists and socialists have set us on. I support Ron Paul because of his views on liberty. I’ve also been one to slam both Gingrich and Romney for being establishment types who will not change a thing in Washington. Last night I decided to do some research on Mitt Romney and I discovered some interesting facts about him that might prove he’s much more conservative than many of us had previously thought. The source of this information comes from Club for Growth’s Presidential White Papers. Please take the time to check it out here>>
Together we will prevail as long as we keep our focus on the issues and on ideas. To help you along with this, I encourage you to visit the below links. You raise good points about the personal attacks, John. Rick Santorum even called Mitt Romney “bland and boring”, which has nothing to do with his policies or how he would govern. I think they all need to take a step back.
I’ll have to read the link you provided about Romney.
Thanks for including me in your link post. I really appreciate it.
LD Jackson recently posted..Ron Paul Surging in South Carolina, To Gain Endorsement of Senator Tom Davis
No problem Larry. I still support Ron Paul, but I haven’t stopped looking into the other candidates because if Paul does drop out or fails to win the nomination I want to know who I’m backing. The fact is Romney is much more conservative than McCain was when he was our nominee. I think we need to keep the big picture in mind that the goal is beating Obama in 2012.

You are gracious as always. Thank you for our inclusion.
Good reminder of how easy we can lose sight that we are all in the same army. It is noble of you to own up and provide some information about the conservatism of Romney. Our present support of Romney at Robbing America Chronicle has been made easy by the attacks on conservative fundamentals by Gingrich and Perry. It is, nevertheless, based mainly in our conviction that he is a good man with a pragmatic conservatism that can win many battles. It is not possible to win Rome in one battle, as many of our conservative friends want.
John Galt recently posted..WOW! Sarah Palin going Rogue! To the leftist side.
Thank you for the kind words John. You are indeed correct. We will not turn this thing around in one election, it will take several.
John Carey recently posted..Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (time to regain our focus edition)
Thanks for the link John.
It is disappointing to see the way these primaries have devolved into personal attacks between Republican candidates. Gingrich and Romney have been sidetracked from the issues at hand and are providing fodder for the Democrats and Obama which will be used against the eventual nominee and it is disheartening.
I think you make a great point about some of Paul’s supporters; they do not help his cause because they are so unwilling to support any other candidate in the event Paul doesn’t win, and so over the top in many cases that they turn off people who would otherwise support him and make Paul less appealing than he otherwise would be.
Steve Dennis recently posted..Right to Work group files a lawsuit against Barack Obama’s recess appointments
You’re welcome Steve. Yes it has been very disappointing that the debate of ideas has regress into name calling. This is not what I envisioned the primaries would be like. Call me foolish but I did think the primaries would be about ideas.
John Carey recently posted..Ron Paul’s Reality Check

Bunkerville recently posted..Next Generation, dumb as dumb can be?
You’re welcome Bunker. Look we can support whoever we want during the primaries, and yes we can disagree, but we always need to keep the big picture in mind and that big picture includes making Obama a one term President. We can not allow our disagreements turn into division.
John Carey recently posted..Ron Paul’s Reality Check
These candidates want to be president and they are willing to do whatever they think it will take. There is a plethora of bad judgement on display. I’m appalled at what is happening.
Thanks so much John for including me in your fabulous gathering of conservative news.
Maggie@MaggiesNotebook recently posted..Taxpayers: $1.6M to Restore Chicano Murals
You’re welcome Maggie. Keep the faith. I know it’s very frustrating to see them go at each other the way they are but I have to believe we will unite behind one candidate and defeat Obama. This is the goal we need to keep on our radar.
John Carey recently posted..Ron Paul’s Reality Check
It has been disturbing to watch the candidates “eat their own” instead of focusing on what they plan to do to fix what is going on in this country.
Honored to be included with all these fine people…
I know what you mean. It is almost sad to watch them go at it the way they do. Whatever happen to being the party of ideas. You’re very welcome for the link.
