It’s time to pass a budget before we lose our nation

Last Thursday credit rating agency Egan-Jones downgraded the credit rating of the United States from AA+ to AA.  Egan-Jones is one of the larger ratings firms after Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings.  So this downgrade was a big deal; a big deal that went virtually unreported by the mainstream media.  In fact I hadn’t heard about this until I read the article over at Conservative HideoutThe reasons they cited for the downgrade are below.

Egan said the U.S.’s total debt as a percentage of gross domestic product may rise above 112% by the end of 2013, a level that will restrain the country’s financial flexibility.  “Without some structural changes soon, restoring credit quality will become increasingly difficult,” the company said in a statement. Egan said there was a 1.2% probability that the U.S. would default in the next year.

And still after our second downgrade in less than a year Congress and the President do not have the desire or will to do what’s necessary to make the structural changes needed to address our growing debt problem and save our children’s future.  Think about it, there’s a 1.2 percent chance that the United States of America will default in the next year and not a peep from our elected officials.  Where’s the outrage?  Where’s the protest in the streets?  Folks this is a problem that doesn’t care about party politics or ideology.  This will bring us to our knees as a nation no matter who we support if we don’t address it soon.

Now for those of you who have tackled personal debt problems you know the first step is getting spending under control.  Debt basics 101; don’t spend more than you take it.  The only way I know you can get spending under control is by sticking to a budget and therein lies the problem.  The last time our congress passed a budget was on April 29, 2009.  President Obama was into his 3rd month as President, Obamacare was being crammed down our throats, the national average price per gallon for gas was $2.06, we had an AAA credit rating and the national debt was $11.1 trillion; that was 1,070 days ago.   Today President Obama is in his 3rd year as President, the SCOTUS is deciding the fate of Obamacare, the national average price per gallon of regular gas is $3.92, our credit rating has been downgraded twice and our national debt is now at $15.6 trillion.  If this is change we can believe in, well Mr. President you can keep it.

So we have managed to rack up $4.5 trillion in debt in three years without a budget and I trust me the two are related.  Without a budget you cannot even begin to address spending and spending is the problem.  It’s not a revenue problem it’s a spending problem.  For the last three years President Obama and Congress have been spending us into slavery, passing continuing resolution after continuing resolution to keep the government operating.  Whenever we get close to having a serious debate about spending or the budget they bring up all the same old horror stories in an attempt to scare the public into inaction.  They stand behind podiums telling us about all the evils that will befall us if dare to cut spending.  It’s as if we will be revisited with the10 plagues of Egypt culminating in the death of our firstborn children if we cut spending.  It’s insulting and quite frankly I’m tired of it.  There’s too much at stake for the nation and they’re simply not getting it done.  Maybe they should start talking about an America that will default on its debt obligations if we don’t get our spending under control or a world where America has become irrelevant because we have lost our ability to dig our way out of the mountain of debt created by this generation.  All I’m asking for is a little honest in regards to our debt problem; something I don’t believe they will provide in an election year.

So here is my proposed solution.  I’m calling on all House Republicans to hold the line and not pass one more continuing resolution or raise the debt ceiling one more penny until Harry Reid in the Senate is willing to take up Paul Ryan’s budget proposal and work to pass it.  I’m also asking that you cut the funding of agencies whose policies are stifling economic growth (EPA).   Additionally all Senators and Representative who oppose a budget need to be given their pink slips this November because they do not have the future of America and our children on their minds and they’re derelict in their duties in regards to their constitutional responsibility to pass a budget.  As I said the first step in solving our debt problem is getting our spending under control and the only way this happens is with a budget.  It’s time for both parties to stop the childish political games and do what is right for America.

Liberty forever, freedom for all.

I think we’ll be threatened with plagues, as they have done for decades. They simply cannot let the truth get in the way of the narrative.

Very true Matt. The truth is our government has been doing things outside the parameters of their constitutional authority for so long it has been that it has become the norm and it’s all the people know. This is why they get away with most of the crap they push on us.

Isn’t it unbelievable that our credit rating was dropped the other day and not one news network thought it was worth talking about? The depths the MSM will go to protect Obama is astounding, but this is more important than ptotecting Obama because this is about our future. I just wish the MSM would get it, it is so frustrating.
I agree with you John, it is time to stop with the CRs and hold firm until the Senate takes a vote on a budget but sadly, nobody is going to do this in an election year because that would take courage and too many people in the House don’t have the courage to take on the slings and arrows that will be thrown at them.

If they don’t have the courage to do what’s right for America now when will they ever have the courage to do anything. Clearly not in the last three years. So this means they need to go. Find out who is up for reelection that opposed a budget and vote for the other candidate. The only way they start taking this seriously is if they feel that their job is threatened by the electorate.

The progressive propagandists are out in full lock-step force. Ryan’s budget doesn’t go far enough, but they are painting it as the apocalypse. This is what we are up against.

This is the tactic they always use Silver because it has proven to be successful. And because there is such a large segment of our society that is completely ignorant it works. It’s like the build up of a wave…the lie builds and gains momentum until it crashes.

I fear that events will have to take over from the politicians before anything is done. The current debt ceiling will be breached in October. The circus will begin again.

Yes and we will once again here the broken record of the Democrats telling how everything will collapse if we don’t raise the ceiling. What’s really sad is that there are a large number of Republicans working with them. It’s all about the expansion of government in our lives.
