Obama: Using the gay community

Yesterday President Obama came out in support of same-sex marriage and today the world praised him for making such brave move.  A brave move would have been coming out in favor of same-sex marriage back in 2008 when Gallup poll numbers showed only 40 percent of Americans supported it; but that wouldn’t have been the politically expedient thing to do.  Instead he waited for more favorable poll numbers on the issue and announced to America and the world how he now supported same-sex marriage and the left lapped it up.  Many on the left proclaimed that the President’s position had “evolved” as if those who oppose gay marriage are living in caves still marveling at the advent of fire.  But has the President’s position really evolved or is he just using the gay community to distract us from the real issues.

In my opinion this move has less to do about the evolution of the President’s position and more about energizing his base and creating a distraction.  Think about this, the night before the President’s big coming out party a huge message was sent by the electorate that confirms what the polls have been saying for weeks; the President’s approval ratings are on the decline and progressivism is being rejected by the American people.  Americans are finally starting wake up.  They’re beginning to see that progressive policies are indeed destructive in terms of economic growth.  Conservatives are beginning to unite and independents are moving towards the right.  Unions are fractured as more and more members do not want to be associated with far left groups that promote socialism and communism. And an inmate incarcerated in Texas almost beat the President in the West Virginia Democratic primary.  This is the reality Obama sees and it doesn’t lead to a second term.

This is why I believe the President and his administration have been playing the gay community since Joe Biden sat down with NBC’s David Gregory and said he was “ absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. “  This interview took place two days after the Labor Department released unemployment numbers that showed little or no improvement.  And these are numbers that impact people no matter what their sexual preference.  With the President’s approval numbers sinking faster than the Titanic the administration needed to shift the focus from the economy to some other topic that would distract the American people from the real issues that are causing them pain.

We have seen President Obama use this tactic three times since the turn of the year. First it was the catholic church and contraceptives, then the Rush Limbaugh Sandra Fluke controversy, then the “War on Women” and now we have Obama supporting same-sex marriage.  What do all those topics have in common?  They take focus off that fact that we are $5 trillion dollars more in debt since Obama took office.  They distract us from focusing on Obamacare, high gas prices, high unemployment rates, inflation, congress operating without a budget for three years; all factors contributing to our dismal economic growth.  You see they need Americans to get sucked into this debate because it has nothing to do with Obama’s track record and he’s using the gay community to advance it.

We deserve better than this.  We deserve an honest debate about the economic and spending issues that are dragging America down.  And when I say we, I mean all of us no matter what a person’s sexual preference.   Instead of the gay community applauding the President’s move, they should be insulted that he is using them to change the narrative from the issues that not only impact all of us, but issues that if we continue to ignore could bankrupt the nation.  They should also be insulted by the fact that the President thinks he can use this one issue to lock up the support and vote of the gay community.   My hope is nobody is that shallow…
