Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (Garage Sale Edition)
I love garage sales. I love going to garage sales and I love having them. The reason for my fondness of garage sales is because it gives me a glimpse of what a pure, unregulated free market looks like at least on a micro scale. You have buyers and sellers, competitive pricing, the movement of goods and haggling. It’s the free unregulated interaction between individuals selling goods and individual buying goods. It’s a fluid environment where anything can happen. Yesterday my wife and I spent the day as the seller and we experienced all the above dynamics. This is how it once was in America; buyers and sellers interacting with each other with little or no regulation. Bartering, haggling and moving goods from one set of hands to another. These were the interactions that lifted people out of poverty and created the most successful economy the world had ever seen. These are the interactions our government has been charged to ensure remain intact. Instead the government has injected itself into the process, picking winners and losers by showing favor to certain industries while tearing down others with regulations. These actions have directly disrupted the interactions between buyers and sellers. We now have a market that is controlled and manipulated by central planners.
This is why we are struggling on the Macro level and why we will continue to struggle. This is why the jobless claims will continue to remain high. This is why America’s economic engine is sputtering along and why our growth is at a snail’s pace. The central planners do not respect or appreciate this crucial interaction between buyers and sellers. Nothing in their academic books teaches them about the human component in an economic system. And this is why they fail. Perhaps in the end the model of the garage sale environment should be the template we use to get us back to the free market. It’s simple enough for everyone to understand and it’s real. That’s my opinion for what it’s worth. Now on to the links.

You are so right about the central planners. Turn the economy back over to the people and stop regulating the hell out of everything and we will turn it around.
Thanks for the linkage!
Silverfiddle recently posted..The Ultimate War on Women
Absolutely Silver. Regulation to me basically is the government’s way of saying we don’t trust the people! You’re welcome and have a great week.

Appreciate the link John. You have probably given the most concise, easiest to understand explanation of the free market system I’ve seen.
Mike recently posted..#BrettKimberlin Exposed By His Own Methods Of Operation…Karma Anyone?
No problem Mike. Yep it’s really that simple. If people want to experience a true free market all they need to do is either have or go to a garage sale.

Well it doesn’t get any easier to understand than the garage sale model. If people can’t understand it after that then they are unteachable Jim. You’re welcome my friend. Keep fighting the good fight.

thanks for the link! I love garage sales too. I like holding them myself even more than shopping them. I love finding a home for all the junk in my house that has no good use. I love the new parents finding all kind of treasure in my “they’ve outgrown this stuff” pile. Have a great week!
