Why are More Americans Renouncing their Citizenship?

Is it a sign of oppression, or economic failure that would cause people to renounce their citizenship and leave the US? The Daily Reckoning has more…

07/03/12 Laguna Beach, California – In November, millions of Americans will trudge to their local polling places to cast votes in the hope of improving their lives here in the USA. Between now and then, a few hundred Americans will vote with their feet in the hope of improving their lives outside the USA.

Last year, nearly 1,800 Americans surrendered their citizenship. In a nation of 300 million folks, 1,800 émigrés is hardly a rush for the exits. But the recent trend is, nevertheless, intriguing.

Number of Americans Per Year Who Renounced Their US Citizenship

This is hard to pin down. It isn’t like people are polling folks that leave. But, the fact that the biggest spike has occurred under Obama, it might be safe to assume that economics and taxes have a roll.

I wonder how big of an issue it has to become before they build a wall to keep people in? We always talk about how the Soviet bloc and Cuba went to great lengths to keep their citizens from escaping the “workers paradise.” I think it’s a valid question to ask if our nation will one day try to prevent leaving the people from fleeing, “hope and change?”

I believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom. I can be found at the Conservative Hideout, or at the Conservative Hideout RapidFire
