Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (Informed voter edition)
Yesterday a lady stopped at my house with a list of names and addresses. In a thick I’m not from North Dakota accent she asked if I would verify my address on the list so I did. After exchanging a few pleasantries she proceeded to ask me if I knew that North Dakota had no formal voter registration process; that all we had to do was show up with a form of ID. I replied, yes I did know this. She then asked me if I was originally from North Dakota and I replied no. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She held her hand out clinched in a fist to bump my fist as if we were old friends as she told me she was from West Virginia. I asked her why she was pounding the ground house to house verifying addresses. She then said, you know you have two strong women running for the North Dakota Senate and congressional seat and if I was willing to support them. I replied, not a snowball’s chance in hell. She tilted her head as a bewildered look washed over her face and asked why? I replied, because I will not vote for any candidate who embraces a far left ideology that believes the government is the solution to our problems. Just as these two candidates reject the individual, so will I reject them. It was at this point I could see she was rattled by my response. She replied you must be a Republican. I said no, I’m independent and I support candidates who embrace individualism and reject collectivism. She’s then said, you mean to tell me that you’re not for the working class. I responded, I’m for the individual and individual liberty. When the individual is free from government regulations and interference anything is possible. That is how it used to be in America and the truth is neither party has been for the working class or for liberty for quite some now. She looked down at the ground and said you know I think I agree with you on this. She said the Democratic Party has radical elements who are corporatists in it. I replied the radical element isn’t the corporatist, that’s just a byproduct of the real radical element. She asked what element is that? I replied it’s the element and mindset that imposes anti-liberty policies that crush the individual. It has many names, fascism, Marxism, communism, and statism, all with the same goal, diminish or eliminate the power of the individual and replace it with government controls and regulations. She smiled, shook my hand, and thanked me for my time.
I’m not even sure she understood what I was talking about. But by the time she walked away from me she knew she just had an encounter with an informed voter and it made her uncomfortable. You see the greatest threat to the status quo in Washington D.C. is an informed voter. An informed voter cannot be easily manipulated or used by a political party or a popular movement. If you really want to change D.C. then you need to start by changing yourself. Start educating yourself on the issues. Treat it like a college research paper and use multiple sources. The information is out there. Don’t’ just forward or post the talking points of the DNC or RNC; do the research. Politicians are in the business of retaining their jobs so they will say about anything to get reelected. They will tell you the things you want to hear and downplay the severity of the things you’re worried about. Don’t let them get away with this. Don’t give them a free pass. We have given them a free pass for far too long and look where we’re at in terms of our national debt, out of control spending, and the growth of government. Take off your political party goggles and become the most dangerous threat to the business as usual crowd in D.C.; become an informed voter. Now onto the links.
If you really want to become an informed voter the first step you can take is by taking a few minutes out of your day to visit the below links. I couldn’t agree more about being an informed voter. It is imperative that we follow the rule of making sure we know for whom we are casting our vote.
Thanks for including Political Realities in your link roundup.

Thanks for the link John. You must have taken that woman by surprise, I bet most of the people she talked to didn’t engage her on the topics the way you did.
Steve Dennis recently posted..Harry Reid fights for Chinese green energy company represented by his son
I did catch her off guard. The good new is I think she actually listened to me. You see when people are ignorant about the issues and they hear something fresh that they can relate to, they will listen Steve. You’re very welcome for the link. Keep up the great work.

Whatdyamean we don’t have informed voters? Why out here in California, we just elected Jerry Brown to his third term and…okay, never mind!
proof recently posted..#Occupy Chick-Fil-A
Yeah that whole Jerry Brown thing really blew my mind. You know what they say, you get the government you deserve and when you have a large number of uninformed voters going to the ballot boxes you had better be tough. You’re welcome for the link proof. Have a great week.

People simply don’t care to take the time to become informed but they seem ready to complain about what they get in the form of politics.
You’re very welcome Harrison. People will blame everything and everyone but themselves. We elect these buffoons and then complain when they pass bills that crush us.
