It is troublesome. Egypt has terrorists running the country; we helped Libya get to that same point. Syria is on fire and Iran mocks us and threatens the world simultaneously. The President has time for The View and pirates, but not for the leader of a nation that is being threatened with complete annihilation – that’s just “noise”.
It is frustrating that this administration has gone out of its way to defend Islamic terrorism at nearly every step. When Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to blow up a plane with a shoe bomb on Christmas the President was quick to write it off as a single incident that was unrelated to Muslim Jihadists. Eric Holder still hasn’t declared the incident an official terrorist act. This flies in the face of the face of Al Qaeda taking responsibility, the known relationship between the suspect and Anwar al-Awlaqi, the House Homeland Security Subcommitte on Intelligence, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment’s findings, and the suspect’s meeting with al-Qaeda manager Fahd al-Quso prior to the event.
Likewise, when Nidal Malik Hasan attacked Fort Hood, the administration called it “an isolated and tragic case”. Janet Napolitano stated that “this was an individual who does not, obviously, represent the Muslim faith”. This ignores that he too had email communication with Anwar al-Awlaqi, yelled “Allahu Akbar” prior to killing unarmed victims, and had the acronym “SoA” (soldier of Allah) on his business card. He told his military supervisor that if you go to Afghanistan or Iraq to kill Muslims you will go to hell, that you can’t have allies that are Christians or Jews, the military knew about his communications with al-Awlaki, and his association with Dar Al-Hijrah, the mosque of two of the 9/11 hijakers and yet did nothing about it. He wasn’t even investigated. 13 service members (and an unborn child) were killed for fear of the politically incorrect notion of being suspicious of a Muslim with terrorist ties.
Now, on the anniversary of 9/11 we have Americans murdered in Libya. How does the President’s administration react? Let me quote one of my favorite authors Mark Steyn:
“The official line – that the slaughter of American officials was some sort of improvised movie review that got a little out of hand – is now in the process of modification to something bearing a less patently absurd relationship to what actually happened. That should not make any more forgivable the grotesque damage that the administration has done to bedrock principle of civilized society: freedom of speech.”
In the end we’ve got 2 weeks of public officials holding movie reviews and airing public apologies in the Mideast for how bad this flick was. In fact, it was bad (I watched the stupid thing) – but there are two aspects to degrading this film so publically that the President had apparently not thought through. First, buying time to talk about how terrible this movie was to the whole Muslim world probably isn’t going to do much to extinguish fires, but more likely to start them. Anyone who didn’t know about the film will likely know now. Second, the Muslim world doesn’t want to see Hillary Clinton talking to them about proper responses to movies.
The whole thing is a farce anyhow. While Hillary is beside herself due to Terry Jone’s denigration of the religious belief of others she conveniently forgets the Broadway musical Book of Mormon that she attended that not only mocks Mormons, but throws the F-bomb at God. Her critique? Standing ovation!
Apparently the Secretary of State thinks that the only religions worth mocking are those that aren’t currently murdering people for their religious beliefs. Or perhaps she is just a coward and knows that she can mock the Mormons because they won’t hurt her – unlike the Muslims. Either way, playing down the great irony, that Muslims murdered people who had nothing to do with a film that displayed Muslims as blood thirsty murderers is a ball that Clinton and Obama shouldn’t let drop.
Continuing in the sardonic theme, Obama had no problem when he denigrated those Christians who “cling to guns or religion”. It’s apparently not okay for Christians to have guns – perhaps because they don’t use them in the same way that Muslim extremists do. The fact is that Obama has mocked Christianity numerous times since being in office. Remember when he nominated three pro-abortion ambassadors to the Vatican? Remember when he went out of his way to circumvent the SCOTUS ruling regarding the private ownership of the Mojave Desert cross? Remember how he didn’t fill the post of “religious freedom ambassador” for two years? Remember how he opposed the inclusion of FDR’s D-Day Prior at the WWII Memorial? This list is much longer.
Or perhaps the administration just likes musicals? Steyn has an idea for that too – Koran: The Musical. Hillary has an invitation. He is pulling the theme out of his book After America that speculates how future generations will look back on our time.
“In the Middle East, Islam had always been beyond criticism. It was only natural that, as their numbers grew in Europe, North America, and Australia, observant Muslims would seek the same protections in their new lands. But they could not have foreseen how eager Western leaders would be to serve as their enablers.”
