Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (Traditions edition)
I’ve always believed that if you want to keep traditions you should learn about their origin and honor it. This year more stores were open for business on Thanksgiving Day earlier than any other time in previous years. Their goal was to get a jump on “Black Friday” madness and who can blame them if there’s a market and demand for it. I guess my question is at what point should we step back and say more is not always better? Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that brings families together for one day to sit down, reflect on what we’re thankful for, and break bread together. We talk, watch football, play games, and come together under one roof. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m still a free market guy and I realize that stores are just responding to a demand; however I also believe that if we want to keep the tradition of Thanksgiving as it was in America we need to treat it as a special day. If we don’t and choose to walk down the path of door buster sales than we need accept the reality that with each passing year Thanksgiving will lose its meaning until it’s no longer a special day in America. Our traditions and culture define who we are as a people and when we allow them to change because of political correctness or in this case door buster sales then we risk losing ourselves and our identity as a people. Is this really the road we want to travel on? Is this the tradition we want to pass on to our children? Something to think about.

The claim is that this Black Thursday event is simply consumer demand. It’s a chicken and egg question. If the stores were open on T-Day with normal pricing and experienced normal sales, then I would agree. But with the door buster carrot pricing in place, we can’t answer that question. Fact is that people must stretch their shopping dollars and there are also workers who need the hours so it’s here to stay I’m afraid.
I certainly don’t favor any law preventing it. Just a sad reality that reflects the movement in this country that is anti-family and anti-Christian.

I agree. I don’t favor any law to enforce it. It just is a sad reality we’re now living in.

Our culture has been under attack so long, it is a wonder we have any traditions left. Thanks for the link, John.

The way you transform a society over time is attack their culture and traditions. You are correct Jim when you say this has been going on for some time now and perhaps this is one of the leading reasons why we are changing. You’re welcome for the link.

Thanks for the link John! I am also a free market guy but I also find it sad that black Friday is now seeping into Thanksgiving, it seems like we can’t even have this one day not being commercialized. These holidays are losing their true meaning and I can’t but help think that some of this is being done on purpose by people who want to see America’s traditions marginalized.

I believe it all starts with the family unit. My wife and I made a decision not to get sucked in to it. So we honored the day and waited for Friday. It’s all our choice. We drive this train so I don’t put all the blame on corporations. You’re welcome for the link my friend.

Black Friday and the sales preceding it are not good for our society. More and more, we are forgetting the foundations of America and the people who call her home.
Thanks for the link, John. I appreciate you linking to Political Realities.

That’s exactly right Larry…we are forgetting our traditions. When we don’t have an understanding of their importance the meaning behind the tradition is lost. You’re welcome for the link. Keep writing about the states because they will be key in restoring the republic.
