Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (Beginning of the End Edition)
It pains me to say this but I believe that 2012 will be remembered as the year that marked the beginning of the end for the Republican Party. I don’t say this because we lost the Presidential election and seats in both the Senate and House. I say this is because the Republican Party is no longer the party for limited government, limited spending, low taxes, and individual liberty. The truth is they had been drifting away from their core values since George W. Bush. I guess I just didn’t want to believe it. My point is I believe it now and my guess is I’m not alone. The establishment types are pushing out the base and without the base they cannot win. I know a number of card carrying Republicans who are unhappy with the current party leadership and the direction the party is going. I find it extremely disheartening to see the Republicans cave on every issue before them and the Democrats always gaining the upper hand. The Republicans continue to struggle with the conservative message and this tells me a great deal about the current state of the party. You only struggle with something if you question it and right now many establishment type Republicans are questioning the conservative message. When a political party reaches the point that they no longer believe in their platform then it’s time for them to pack it up. You either believe and advance conservative principles or you don’t.
Ronald Reagan believed and because he believe so strongly in the conservative cause he sold it with ease. He conveyed conservative ideas perfectly and people bought into what he was selling. Boehner and his establishment ilk no longer believe in conservatism so they struggle trying to sell it. And as long as these people are running the show the Republican Party will continue to decline and its influence will be greatly diminished. The only hope to turn things around is for conservatives to take the keys away from the establishment. I just don’t see this happening. And after the Republicans cave in once again to the class warfare, tax raising, success hating, big government loving, liberty stealing left during these fiscal cliff negotiations and allow taxes to be raised on the 2 percent, I predict the party is over. I know it’s already over for me. Now on to the links.

Thanks again. Unless they dump Boehner, there is little hope. The tea party folks are what got them back after years. How soon they forget.

You’re very welcome Bunker. Yep until they ax Boehner I’m afraid he and his establishment type are going to destroy the party. Maybe it’s time for something different.

I can’t explain it, John, but I believe the GOP turned their back on conservatism the day that Reagan left office.
Thanks for the link, my friend!

I I think that’s when they started moving in that direction, however it wasn’t until George W. Bush that it started to become painfully obvious the direction the party was heading. You’re welcome for the link Jim.

Thanks for the link John and I am right there with you on the future of the Republican party. We have been trying to hold onto the belief that the Republicans still believe in limited government even as Bush increased spending and passed the PATRIOT Act. We did this because we believed that the Republicans were still the lesser of two evils, but there are many of us–myself included–who now see such a little difference between the two parties that we are no longer willing to settle for the lesser of two evils. While we still held our noses and voted for Romney there were many conservatives who came to this conclusion before we did and those conservatives stayed home. In my opinion that is why Obama won and if the Republicans don’t get their act together they will never win another election, and at this point I don’t even care if they do!
Steve Dennis recently posted..Open thread for Sunday, December 30th: New commenting policy
I absolutely agree Steve. I believe that conservatives are going to either start looking for candidates that represent their views or they will continue to unplug and not participate in the process. Either way does not bold well for the Republican Party. The only thing that can save them is if they fire the establishment types in the party. I don’t see that happening.

Happy New Year and thanks (again) for the link.
May 2013 be a better year for you than for our nation!
Thanks Harrison. The same to you.

Yeah. It’s hard to believe that the party of Lincoln can be turned around. I’m not ready to bail yet, mostly because I don’t see a third party alternative with the organization or clout to toss out the liberals or do anything other than be a minority party for the conceivable future. I admit, though, I could be joining you soon. Things are pretty bleak.
proof recently posted..Themes Like Old TImes
Things are bleak because we have the wrong leadership running the party. I will still vote for conservative candidates, I just won’t blindly follow the Republican Party’s lead any more. I did not leave them, they left me.
John Carey recently posted..Teeing it up: A Round at the LINKs (Beginning of the End Edition)
Thanks for the link, John. I wish I could convince you that you are wrong in your assessment of the Republican Party. To do that, however, I would have to convince myself first. I have been unable to do that. I am afraid it does not bode well for us or the country we all love so much.
LD Jackson recently posted..Obama The Chastiser
You’re very welcome Larry. It pains me to say any of this because I have been a staunch supporter of the Republican Party for years. But I cannot to continue to support a party whose core values no longer align with mine. I’m done voting for the lessor of two evils. It is what has gotten us in this mess. I will be writing the RNC and my Senator to let him know.

Here’s the thing–Political parties can and should die if they no longer have any meaning to anybody. The Federalists and The Whigs all crapped the mattress. The GOP isn’t guaranteed a spot at the political table. If they don’t adequately represent the traditionalist/constitutionalist people in America, let the Republican Party go away.
Thanks for linking me, John. I appreciate it.
KingShamus recently posted..2012–Obama’s Ascendancy or Conservative Reform?
I believe they’re on that path. The more they compromise on their principles the more they will lose their base and because the middle is shift to the left, they will struggle to find votes there. This is why I believe it’s the beginning of the end for the party.
